Your Club, Your Call…
TYA belongs to our young people, and we want their voices to direct our services!
This year at TYA, we are starting a youth-led development project. Our aim is to involve young people in the process of creating, designing and funding new services and activities.
We are creating two ‘Youth Choice’ groups, one in Peebles and one in Innerleithen and would like
these groups to have a diverse cohort which will hopefully represent the varying needs of young people within the community!
The sessions will be fortnightly in each location, on Tuesday nights (5-7pm) and will involve:
Discussions on current service provision, and what services young people would like to see
at the youth club
Holiday programme planning
Fundraiser and event planning to raise funds which the young people can put towards their
ideas.
Creating ways to reach the wider youth population and find out what they would like from
the youth club.
Interactive CV and skill building workshops: communication/debating topics, learning how to
budget, presenting ideas to groups, event management, writing skills.
Locating, writing and submitting funding applications for new activities/services.
In addition to our fortnightly sessions, there will be various additional sessions taking place, including fundraising preparation and fundraising days, pilot sessions for new activities and outreach days.
As the project is voluntary, we will be able to provide SCQF accredited awards to the young people
involved, which can be added to CV’s and college/university applications! Young people aged 10-14
can do the Dynamic Youth Award (SCQF Level 3) and young people over 14 will do the Silver Youth
Achievement Award (SCQF Level 5).
