As our work with young people grows and evolves, so does our team of youth workers.
Through funding from the Young Start programme distributed by the National Lottery Community Fund we are now recruiting a project lead for our Food Punks project.
Post title: Food Punks Project Lead
Location: Based in Peebles but this role will entail travel to events and festivals
Hours: 35 hours per week, including evening and weekend working
Rate of pay: £32,000 per annum
General role:
As Food Punks Project Lead you will head up our Food Punks project and will have considerable experience of running a commercial kitchen and Outside Catering. You will also have experience of working with children and young people in a skill development role.
Responsibilities:
Day to day running of Project Pizza, TYA’s pizzeria and youth training facility
Induction, training and accreditation of Food Punk staff and volunteers
Planning and costing of menus
Financial reporting and forecasting of spend to management and stakeholders.
Implementation of food hygiene practices and records as per Environmental Health guidelines
Purchasing food through commercial catering suppliers as per HACCP guidelines
Promotion and advertising of Food Punks services
Liaising with stakeholders to recruit paid and volunteer Food Punks
Person specification:
You will have experience of working with children and young people in an informal setting and a thorough understanding of the policies and principles that inform youth work including Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) and SHANARRI indicators. You will also have a passion for food and cookery and at least 10 years of experience in the catering and hospitality industry with at least 5 years experience in a senior kitchen role

● Ability to motivate individuals and groups and inspire their confidence and trust
● A tactful and diplomatic approach to dealing with sensitive and confidential information

● A sense of humour
● A full driving license and access to a car
This role is subject to PVG disclosure and will entail evening and some weekend work, working 5 days out of 7. All training, including essentials such as Child Protection and C-Card will be provided and this role will give candidates considerable opportunities for development and growth within both the youth work and hospitality sector.
